Kris Marie is a Dallas-based content creator who shares her love for makeup through YouTube and Instagram. When she's not filming videos, you can find her playing with her crazy dogs or planning her next girls trip.

We got a chance to ask Kris Marie a few questions about breakups and how she learned to cope after her first heartbreak. She opened up about how self love and having a strong support system kept her #onthemend.

If you think back to the first time you were heartbroken, what advice would you give to that younger version of yourself?

"Thinking back to the first time I was heartbroken, I would definitely tell my younger self that LIFE WILL GO ON. Like really, it will. I would tell myself that you will come out of this situation a much stronger person than you ever were & eventually one day you will thank him for breaking your heart."

What has heartbreak taught you about yourself?

"Heartbreak has taught me so much about myself, especially that I am stronger than I believe. But I would say the most important thing it's taught me is how to love myself and I mean, truly love myself. After my biggest heartbreak I couldn't help but feel like it was my fault, that I was the reason why it didn't work out. I thought so negatively of myself and I later realized how completely stupid I was being. Today, I love who I am. I know my worth and I know what I deserve."

What are your rituals during a breakup? What things/practices/people helped you mend?

"After a breakup, I hated San Francisco because that's where my boyfriend and I went on vacation together. I was bitter and had nothing but bad memories of that city. So after a couple years went by, my best friends and I decided to visit SF and make new memories! Now when I think of San Francisco, I don't think about the time I went on vacation with my ex (it was that bad). I think of the amazing memories I made with the people who mattered the most, my best friends - like trying to run up a really steep hill with Stella and laughing so hard we almost peed our pants, or drinking Miller Lite on a boat and sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge. Or like running into Sam Smith at the bar."

Thinking back to breakups you’ve had, did you have any breakup vices (checking your ex’s Insta, etc) and how do you conquer them?

"Omg I'm so ashamed and so guilty LOL. Don't do it, just don't! You will thank yourself later. I stopped checking my ex's Instagram when I realized that that's 5 minutes of my time that I literally just wasted. That's 5 minutes of my life I will never get back."

What keeps your heart open, despite the heartbreaks you’ve had in your life?

"My family, my friends and my faith. I could be at rock bottom but God has never failed to let me know that I'll be okay and that this is an obstacle in my life that is preparing me for something greater. He's blessed me with amazing people who love me unconditionally. They give me strength and keep me going."

What is your favorite song about heartbreak?

"Unsteady by X Ambassadors"

What is your favorite movie about heartbreak?

"Omg, so there's two that can have me ugly crying for hours... A Walk To Remember and The Notebook."

What projects are you currently working on, and looking forward to most?

"I'm currently working on creating more content for my YouTube and Instagram, specifically holiday inspired! Thanksgiving & Christmas time are my favorite times of the year, so I'm looking forward to filming a variety of different videos from holiday makeup tutorials, hair tutorials, gift ideas, DIY holiday crafts, and more."
