A few years ago, I was really, really heartbroken. I was reading online forums, attending workshops, calling therapists, buying all the books on Amazon (you know those books...). I was learning a really important lesson that I am reminded of every day at Mend: no one is immune to heartbreak. “So why is no one really talking about breakups?” I remember thinking to myself.
My own recovery was a well-designed experiment. I tried everything, I read everything, I talked to as many people as I could about how they mended (which later evolved into #howimend). Throughout that time, I kept coming back to the same conclusion: there has to be a better way to support people through a breakup. And that’s what inspired me to build letsmend.com - the site I was looking for but couldn’t find.
Since then, so much has changed. For one, I only work from my kitchen table some of the time :). Team Mend has grown, a Mender community has emerged around the world, and together we envisioned and launched our app, a personal trainer for heartbreak.
Today I’m excited to share a new version of Mend. We’ve been working on this update for months, and I can’t wait for you to check it out.
Your Personal Trainer for Heartbreak
We designed this new version from the ground up thanks in large part to feedback from our early Menders. One thing we heard consistently was how Mend felt like a friend, guiding you through your breakup. We wanted our design to reflect how personal and intimate our trainings are, so we created an entirely new conversational interface where you'll interact with me, Elle, to get your trainings.
This new chat-like experience will allow us to personalize your trainings as we evolve, and we're very excited about that. We also brought in a navigation bar because we want it to be very easy to get around (breakups are hard enough!)
Here's how it works: the first time you use Mend, I'll ask you a few questions to get to know you and your breakup a bit better, and then I'll walk you through creating an account. Every day, I'll check in with you to see how you're feeling, deliver your audio training and guide you through a writing exercise.
The Mend Journey
We heard loud and clear from our beta that Menders want to zoom out, see progress over time and easily go back to favorite trainings. This is why we created a Mend Journey, a visual map of where you've been and where you're going.
You can also track important milestones along your Journey and access settings here. And this is just the beginning - we have a lot of plans in the works for this part of the app!
Welcome to Mend Mint
Last but not least, our app looks completely different! We worked with an incredibly talented team of designers to create this calming and yet action-oriented look and feel for us. It creates an environment that's not too fluffy, but also not too serious either - it's just right.
One area where this really shines is our newly re-designed stream of stories. We’ve made it easier to browse through the posts, read titles, and we have more improvements coming soon.
I can't wait for you to see this all for yourself. If you run into any issues or if you have any feedback/ideas for us, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you to Team Mend and to all the Menders who helped us along the way. We’ve re-envisioned the entire Mending experience, but our mission remains the same: whole hearts for everyone. And we’re still just at the beginning. :)
